- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 4 slices bread, coarsely crumbled
- 6 medium tomatoes, peeled and sliced or 1 can cooked tomatoes to equal 3 1/2 c.
- salt
- pepper
- sugar
Directions

1Cook onion in butter until tender, but not brown.

2Stir in bread crumbs.

3In a 1-quart casserole, layer half the tomatoes; sprinkle with salt, pepper and sugar.

4Cover with half the crumb mixture.

5Repeat layers.

6Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
