- 2 1/4 c. cake flour
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 egg whites
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Grease and flour 2 or 3 layer pans (8 or 9 x 1/2-inch) or an oblong pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch).

3Blend flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in sifter.

4Put in mixing bowl.

5Add shortening, 2/3 cup of milk and vanilla.

6Beat 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl constantly.

7Add egg whites one at a time, beating batter for one minute after each egg white.

8Add the rest of milk and beat for another minute. Pour into prepared pans and bake layers 25 to 30 minutes, oblong cake 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tests done.

9Cool 10 minutes in the pan.

10Frost with seven minute frosting.
