- 4 c. shredded cabbage (red)
- 1/4 c. cider vinegar
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 2 tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1In a saucepan, combine shredded cabbage with all ingredients except apples and sugar.

2Cover and cook over moderate heat for 15 minutes, tossing several times so the cabbage will cook evenly. Add apples; toss again.

3Cover; cook 5 minutes longer.

4Add sugar. If more water is needed during cooking, add 2 or 3 tablespoons but when the dish is done, all moisture should have cooked away. Yield:
