  • 1 ham bone
  • 8 c. water
  • 1 lb. dried split green peas
  • 4 medium size carrots, pared and diced
  • 1 medium size onion, chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt and pepper

Directions

    Combine ham bone, water, peas, carrots, onion and bay leaf in a large kettle.

    Bring to boiling; cover.

    Simmer 1 hour until peas are soft.

    Remove ham bone; cut off bits of meat and add to soup.

    Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed.

    Remove bay leaf.
