  • 12 lb split peas (lentils are good also)
  • 1 ham hock
  • 1 minced carrot
  • 1 minced celery
  • 1 minced onion

    Place all ingredients in a pot and fill with lots of water.

    Boil, boil, boil.

    Watch carefully and stir.

    As the peas start to thicken, add a little water.

    It helps to cook -- but not too much water or it will be too thin.
