Ingredients
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. flour
- 2 qt. hot water
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 c. celery
- 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
- 1 (No. 303) can tomatoes (2 c.)
- 2 Tbsp. beef flavor base (solid)
- 1 Tbsp. monosodium glutamate
- 1 bay leaf
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions

1Melt butter in large Dutch oven; blend in flour to make a smooth paste and stir in hot water.

2Saute beef and drain off drippings; add beef to soup.

3Add fresh and frozen vegetables, seasonings and tomatoes (break up tomatoes).

4Bring soup to boil, then simmer until vegetables are cooked (about 1 hour or longer). The longer the better.

5You may freeze for later use.

6Makes about 10 servings.
