  • 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 or 5 c. flour (enough to make soft dough)

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Combine all dry ingredients. Combine egg, milk, buttermilk and vanilla and add to dry ingredients, a little at a time.

    Makes a soft dough.

    Roll thin, cut and bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes.

    Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
