- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/4 c. butter
- 3 slices bread (2 1/4 c.), crumbled
- 6 medium tomatoes, peeled and sliced (about 3 1/2 c.)
- salt
- pepper
- sugar
Directions

1Cook onion in butter until tender. Stir in bread crumbs in a 1-quart casserole dish.

2Layer half the tomatoes.

3Sprinkle with salt, pepper and sugar. Cover with half the crumb mixture. Repeat layers.

4Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes.
