  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, divided into 1/4 tsp.
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 3 c. flour

    Scald 2 cups milk; remove from heat.

    Add 2 eggs, two 1/4 teaspoons salt and 3 tablespoons sugar.

    Cool to lukewarm.

    Soften 2 yeast cakes to the milk mixture; beat thoroughly.

    Gradually stir in 3 cups flour to make dough that handles easily.

    Turn onto floured board; knead until smooth, adding more flour if needed. Place dough in greased bowl; brush with 2 tablespoons melted shortening.

    Cover; let rise in warm place 2 to 3 hours, until doubled.

    Punch down, knead and shape into loaves.

    Place loaves in well-greased pans.
