Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 envelopes dry yeast
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. dry milk or Cremora
  • 1/4 c. butter, softened

Directions

    Preheat oven to 425°.

    Grease a 10 x 14-inch pan.

    Melt Crisco; cool.

    Mix water, sugar and yeast; dissolve thoroughly. Stir together dry ingredients in a large bowl.

    To the flour mixture, add shortening and water/yeast mixture all at once.

    Stir just enough to moisten.

    Knead lightly on floured board.

    Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.

    Spread with softened butter, fold and re-roll. Cut into squares or rounds and place close together on baking pan.
