- 1 qt. sweet milk
- 5 egg yolks, beaten or 3 well beaten large eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 stick cinnamon (optional)
- 5 Tbsp. sugar or to taste
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- nutmeg
Directions

1Heat milk (with cinnamon stick if desired) until bubbles begin to appear around edge of pan.

2Stir sugar and salt into eggs.

3Add hot milk slowly to egg mixture, stirring constantly.

4Return to double boiler and cook over low heat, while stirring, until mixture coats spoon.

5Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Sprinkle with nutmeg, if desired. Chill and serve from pitcher.
