- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt; mix well.

2Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

3Add buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.

4Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead three or four times.

5Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.

6Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet.

7Bake at 450° for 10 minutes or until tops are golden. Yields 14 biscuits.
