Chocolate Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. soft margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 sq. chocolate, melted
  • powdered sugar
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. nuts (optional)

Directions

    Sift first 5 ingredients together in a bowl and drop in shortening, adding milk and vanilla and mixing on low speed for 2 minutes.

    Add eggs and chocolate; beat 1 minute.

    Turn into a 9-inch tube pan and bake in 350° oven for 1 hour 10 minutes.

    Just before serving, spoon powdered sugar into top of cake.
