- 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. soft margarine
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 sq. chocolate, melted
- powdered sugar
- 2/3 c. milk
- 3/4 c. nuts (optional)
Directions

1Sift first 5 ingredients together in a bowl and drop in shortening, adding milk and vanilla and mixing on low speed for 2 minutes.

2Add eggs and chocolate; beat 1 minute.

3Turn into a 9-inch tube pan and bake in 350° oven for 1 hour 10 minutes.

4Just before serving, spoon powdered sugar into top of cake.
