- 1 gal. cabbage, chopped
- 12 large onions, chopped
- 12 green peppers, chopped
- 12 red peppers, chopped
- 1/2 gal. green tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 c. salt
- hot red pepper (optional)
- 2 qt. vinegar
- 5 c. sugar
- 6 Tbsp. mustard seed
- 1 Tbsp. turmeric powder
- 1 Tbsp. ginger
- 2 Tbsp. mixed spices
Directions

1Put the last 4 ingredients in a bag and tie.

2Combine sugar, vinegar and spices tied in a bag.

3Bring to a boil; simmer 5 minutes.

4Add vegetables.

5Bring back to a boil.

6Remove spice bag.

7Pack chow chow in hot jars.

8Seal at once.
