  • 14 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 4 gala apples or 4 fuji apples
  • 4 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish

    Preheat oven to 450.

    In a large bowl, combine sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup water.

    Halve apples and core using a spoon or melon baller.

    Toss apples in the sugar.

    Arrange apples, skin up in a baking dish then pour sugar over them.

    Tuck in cinnamon sticks and cover with foil.

    Bake until apples are easily pierced about 15-20 minutes.
