Ingredients

  • 1 c. dates, chopped
  • 3 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Mix first 3 ingredients and let cool, then add remaining ingredients.

    Grease 5 (No. 2) gold-lined cans and fill half full with mixture.

    Bake in a 300° oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Remove from cans and wrap in foil.

    Keeps a long time; may be frozen, also.
