- 5 c. sifted plain flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 cake yeast
Directions

1Combine flour and salt.

2Add shortening and mix until consistency of corn meal.

3Add sugar and yeast to warm water. Stir until dissolved.

4Add to flour mixture.

5Turn onto floured board; knead well.

6Make into desired shapes; brush tops with butter.

7Allow to rise for about 1 1/2 hours in a warm place until double in bulk.

8Bake in preheated 450° oven.
