  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 6 Tbsp. sugar

Directions

    Beat egg yolks, stir in 1/2 cup sugar, salt and nutmeg; add milk. Pour into pie shell and bake at 450° for 15 minutes. Reduce to 300° and bake about 45 minutes more or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Top with meringue and bake until brown.
