  • 1/2 c. meal
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 c. shortening or bacon grease

    Put grease in iron skillet; let it heat.

    Roll okra in meal with salt added.

    Shake off excess meal.

    Put battered okra into grease.

    Fry until brown.

    Turn off heat.

    Place skillet with okra in oven.

    Cook at 350° for 10 minutes.
