Fried Wontons

9 ingredients
3 steps

Ingredients

  • 8 oz ground pork
  • 8 oz ground chicken
  • 1 None green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp plum sauce, plus additional, to serve
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 36 None wonton wrappers
  • 1 None egg white, lightly beaten
  • None None Vegetable or rice bran oil, to deep-fry

Directions

  1. 1
Mix ground pork and chicken, onion, garlic, plum sauce and spice in a large bowl.
  2. 2
Place a wonton wrapper on a flat work surface. Spoon 2 tsp pork mixture onto center. Brush edges with egg white. Lift up wrapper corners; pinch to form a pouch enclosing filling. Place on a plate.
  3. 3
Pour oil into a wok or heavy-bottomed saucepan to 2 inch depth. Heat on high heat (oil is ready when a cube of bread crisps quickly without absorbing oil). Deep-fry wontons, in batches, for 2 mins or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a metal slotted spoon to transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Serve wontons with additional plum sauce.
