- 3/4 c. shortening or margarine
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 1/2 c. walnuts
Directions

1Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses together thoroughly. Stir in remaining ingredients.

2Mix raisins and nuts last.

3Use an ungreased jelly roll pan.

4Shape into sausage-like rolls; 2 or 3 strips.

5Press down.

6Bake at 375° for 9 to 10 minutes.

7Cracks may make them appear uncooked, but remove and cool.

8Cut into bars.

9Sprinkle granulated sugar on top while they are still hot.
