Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 can chili powder
  • 1 can tomato puree
  • 1 qt. mashed canned tomatoes
  • 1 c. catsup
  • 1 Tbsp. whole cumin seed
  • 1 Tbsp. red pepper (1/4 tsp. for milder flavor)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 qt. hot water

Directions

    Chop onion and garlic (fine), browning in shortening.

    Add chili powder and bay leaves.

    Add meat.

    Add puree, mashed tomatoes and water, then cook slowly for 1/2 hour, or until meat is done.

    Thicken with 1/2 cup flour or enough to thicken it. Salt to taste.
