Ingredients

  • 23 cup poppy seed
  • 1 14 cups milk
  • 1 12 cups sugar
  • 12 cup lard or 12 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 eggs, whites beaten stiff
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cup butter
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Directions

    Soak poppy seeds in 1 1/4 c milk overnight.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    beat egg whites.

    Cream lard,salt, sugar, honey, 3 egg yolks and vanilla together.

    Add dry ingredients; then add poppy seed mixture.

    When blended, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

    Put in greased and floured cake pan.

    Bake until cake springs back when touched, about 40 minutes.
