Macadamia-Pear Tart

- 1/2 c. unsifted flour
- 1/2 c. coarsely chopped Macadamia nuts (about 2.25 oz.)
- 1 egg
- 3 ripe Bartlett pears, peeled, halved and cored
- 1/2 c. plus 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Butter pie or tart pan.

3Combine flour, the 1/2 cup sugar, nuts and baking powder.

4Stir well.

5Stir together milk, egg and vanilla in small bowl until blended.

6Add to flour mixture and stir until smooth.

7Place each pear half, cut side down, on cutting board.

8Cut crosswise into 1/4-inch slices.

9Slide spatula under pear to keep it in its original shape and place in buttered pan with stem end facing toward center. Pour batter over pears.

10Sprinkle tops of pears with remaining 1 teaspoon sugar.

11Bake in 350° oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown and wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack.

12Cover and refrigerate until well chilled.
