  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. quick-cooking, rolled oats
  • 1/3 c. dark molasses
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 5 or 6 c. flour

    in the 1/2 cup lukewarm water.

    Set aside. In another bowl, combine the 1 1/4 cups boiling water, oats, molasses,

    shortening and salt.

    Cool to lukewarm. Add the beaten

    yeast mixture.

    Beat well.

    Add enough flour to make a soft dough, 5 or 6 cups.

    Knead, adding flour as needed. Place dough in greased bowl, cover and let rise in warm place until

    Punch down and form into 2 loaves. Grease 2

    loaf pans.

    until double in size, about 30 minutes. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
