- 1 c. warm water
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. oats
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 Tbsp. shortening, softened
- 1/4 c. brown or white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 1/2 c. or more or less flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Add sugar, salt and oats.

3Stir in egg.

4Add shortening.

5Add half of the flour.

6Mix with spoon. Add rest of flour and knead by hand.

7Place in greased bowl.

8Cover and let rise until double, 1 1/2 hours.

9Punch down.

10Form in 24 balls.

11Place on greased pan.

12Cover and let rise 45 minutes.

13Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 375°.
