  • 1 c. dry ground split peas
  • water
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
  • oil for deep frying

Directions

    Mix ground peas and just enough water to form a thick batter. Add all ingredients and beat well, until light and fluffy.

    Heat oil to 365° (185° C).

    Form the pea mixture, a tablespoonful at a time, into balls.

    Drop into hot oil.

    Fry until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

    Delicious served with mango chutney.
