- 5 medium red-skinned apples
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. cider vinegar
- 2 1/2 c. water
- 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
- 1 tsp. whole allspice
- 1/2 tsp. red food color
Directions

1Wash and core apples, but do not pare.

2Cut crosswise into 1/2-inch slices.

3Combine sugar and remaining ingredients in large skillet; simmer 5 minutes.

4Place apples in syrup; cook for 5 minutes, turning carefully.

5Transfer rings to shallow bowl. Strain syrup over apples.

6Refrigerate, covered, overnight.

7Serve chilled as a meat garnish.

8Makes about 24 rings.
