Spiced Fruit Compote

  • 1 (29 oz.) can pears, cut in chunks
  • 1 (29 oz.) can sliced peaches
  • 1 1/2 c. seedless raisins
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves

Directions

    Drain peaches and pears; reserve 1 1/2 cups syrup.

    In 4-quart saucepan, heat raisins, water, brown sugar, salt, cornstarch, spices and fruit syrup to boiling, stirring often.

    Reduce heat, cover and simmer 10 minutes.

    Add pears and peaches (heat thoroughly).

    Serve warm.

    Serve as an accompaniment to meat. This is good at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
