- 6 large green peppers
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 3 Tbsp. raw rice
- 2 Tbsp. cold water
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 c. chopped onions
- 1 (29 oz.) can tomatoes, drained
- 3 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 c. grated onion
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1Wash peppers.

2Cut 1-inch piece from tops and reserve.

3Scoop out seeds and fibers.

4Mix together meat, grated onion, rice, egg, water, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper.

5Stuff mixture into peppers and replace tops.

6Heat oil in heavy saucepan.

7Saute chopped onions 10 minutes.

8Mix tomatoes, salt and pepper.

9Arrange peppers in upright position.

10On top, add lemon juice and sugar.

11Cover and cook 30 minutes or longer until tender.

12Baste frequently with sauce.

13Taste for seasoning.

14Gravy should be sweet and sour.
