  • 3 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 1/2 c. water
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 18 c. all-purpose flour

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water; set aside.

    Heat until warm the milk and 2 1/2 cups of water (5 cups of liquid). Add milk and water to shortening, sugar, salt and beaten eggs. Measure and add to liquid the flour 3 cups at a time.

    Grease hands; knead well.

    Let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in bulk. Knead again and put dough in greased pans.

    Let rise again.

    Bake at 375° for 10 minutes, then lower heat to 350° for 35 minutes. Makes 6 to 8 pan loaves.
