Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 2 -inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and diced
- 1 1/2 ounces apple brandy
- 3/4 ounce apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Star anise, for garnish (optional)
Directions

1Make the syrup: Combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat; cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves.

2Remove from the heat and let cool.

3Transfer the syrup to a food processor or blender, add the ginger and puree until smooth.

4Let sit 2 to 3 hours, then strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth.

5Make the drink: Combine the brandy, vinegar, orange liqueur, honey and about 1 tablespoon of the ginger syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

6Shake well, then strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.

7Garnish with star anise, if desired.
