- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1/2 c. oil
- 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
- chopped pecans
- 1 lb. pkg. caramels
Directions

1Combine cake, butter, water, oil and 1/2 can condensed milk. Mix well.

2Pour 1/2 batter into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

3Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.

4Melt caramels and remainder of condensed milk over low heat until smooth.

5Spread over cake layer.

6Sprinkle generously with pecans.

7Cover with remaining cake batter.

8Return to oven and bake 25 to 35 minutes. Cool and spread with frosting.
