  • 12 cup milk, scalded
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 13 cup shortening
  • 34 cup sugar
  • 12 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon rind (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 12 cups milk
  • 6 12 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

    Scald 1/2 cup milk; cool; add yeast;

    Add 1 teaspoon sugar.

    Cream shortening, sugar, salt, nutmeg, and lemon rind.

    Add 1-1/2 cups milk.

    ( i needed a little more milk ).

    Knead; place in a greased bowl; let rise until doubled.

    Roll out; cut doughnuts.

    Let rise 10 minutes.

    Fry until golden in deep fat 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

    You can shake doughnuts in sugar or glaze.
