- 1 c. yellow corn meal
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 6 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 1 c. boiling water
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Stir corn meal slowly into combined hot milk and water.

2Add shortening, molasses and salt.

3Let stand until lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast into warm water.

4Stir into corn meal mixture alternately with flour.

5Knead about 7 minutes.

6Place in greased bowl; turn once to bring greased side up.

7Cover and let rise about 1 1/2 hours.

8Knead down and shape into 2 loaves.

9Cover and let rise about 45 minutes.

10Bake at 375° for 40 to 50 minutes. Butter top of loaves when done.
