  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. broken walnuts
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. canned applesauce
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. butterscotch pieces

Directions

    Mix and sift flour, salt and spices.

    Add nuts.

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add baking soda to applesauce.

    Add egg. Add to creamed mixture.

    Add dry ingredients.

    Stir in butterscotch pieces.

    Drop by teaspoons two or three inches apart on greased baking sheet.

    Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 12 to 15 minutes.

    Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
