- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
- 2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Combine buttermilk and soda in heavy 3-quart saucepan.

2Let sit 20 minutes.

3Add sugar and corn syrup.

4Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.

5When mixture boils, add butter and cook, stirring occasionally, until it reaches soft ball stage (236° to 238° on a candy thermometer).

6It will

7have turned a medium brown color.

8Remove from heat and allow to cool to lukewarm (110°), then beat until mixture loses its gloss and starts to thicken.

9Stir in nuts and turn into a buttered 8-inch square pan until firm.

10Makes approximately 1 1/2 pounds.
