Ingredients

  • Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice
  • 1 1/2 cups tart cherries (difficult to find)
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • Dumplings
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup milk

Directions

    Combine all sauce ingredients in the order given. Simmer for 5 minutes.

    For dumplings, sift dry ingredients. Rub in butter, add milk and stir. Drop into sauce by teaspoons. Cover and steam for about 20 minutes.
