Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. milk
  • 6 slightly beaten egg yolks (retain whites for meringue)
  • 4 Tbsp. dry cocoa
  • 2/3 c. flour or 6 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 baked pie crusts

Directions

    Mix sugar, cocoa, flour and salt.

    Gradually add milk.

    Cook and stir over medium heat until bubbly.

    Cook 2 minutes.

    Remove and stir small amount of hot mixture into egg yolks.

    Immediately return to hot mixture.

    Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove.

    Add butter and vanilla.

    Spread meringue and bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
