  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 2 eggs, unbeaten
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. shredded coconut

    Have butter at room temperature.

    Beat first 3 ingredients at No. 3 speed until well blended.

    Press firmly into prepared pan. Bake at 325° for 20 minutes. Do not brown.

    Beat next 6 ingredients on No. 8 speed about 2 minutes.

    Add nuts. Spread over partially baked batter. Sprinkle with coconut.

    Bake at 325° about 25 minutes.

    Cut into bars while warm.

    Cool in pan.

    Makes 2 dozen cookies.
