In cocktail shaker, combine vodka, orange liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup, and cranberry juice. Add ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into chilled martini glass. Rub orange or lemon twist around rim, drop twist into glass, and serve immediately.
