- 4 gal. cucumbers
- 2 gal. water
- 4 c. salt
- 1/2 c. alum
- 1 box pickling spice
- 1 gal. vinegar
- 10 lb. sugar
Directions

1Soak cucumbers in salt water for 6 days; drain.

2Rinse in cold water.

3Slice and soak in 1/2 cup alum to 1 1/2 gallons of water for 2 days.

4Rinse alum water off.

5Soak overnight in 1 gallon of vinegar; pour vinegar off.

6Put pickling spice (tie up in cloth) in bottom of jar or crock.

7Add 1 layer of cucumbers and 1 layer of sugar; repeat until you've used 10 pounds of sugar.
