Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 c. milk, scalded and cooled
  • 5 c. sifted flour or enough to make moderately stiff dough
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • butter
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Add shortening to milk while milk is still warm.

    When milk has cooled, dissolve yeast in water and add to milk.

    Add sugar, salt, eggs and flour; beat well.

    Let rest in bowl about 20 minutes.

    Knead dough for a minute or two.

    Fill greased muffin pans 2/3 full or make out rolls.

    Let rise until double in bulk. Bake in hot oven at 425° for 20 minutes.

    Brush with butter after removing from oven.

    Makes about 36 rolls.
