- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 3/4 c. quick cooking oats
- 1 recipe Date Filling
- walnut halves
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Sift together flour, soda and salt.

3Stir in oats.

4Add to creamed mixture and mix until crumbly.

5Firmly pack half the mixture in greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

6Spread with date filling.

7Add remaining crumbs and pat smooth.

8Bake in moderate oven, 350°, for 30 minutes.

9Cut in fairly big diamonds.

10Press walnut half into top of each diamond.
