Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. quick cooking oats
  • 1 recipe Date Filling
  • walnut halves

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Sift together flour, soda and salt.

    Stir in oats.

    Add to creamed mixture and mix until crumbly.

    Firmly pack half the mixture in greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Spread with date filling.

    Add remaining crumbs and pat smooth.

    Bake in moderate oven, 350°, for 30 minutes.

    Cut in fairly big diamonds.

    Press walnut half into top of each diamond.
