- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Sift flour, then measure.

2Sift flour, baking powder, salt and spices together; set aside.

3Cream shortening.

4Stir sugar and molasses into shortening.

5Add egg yolk; mix well.

6Stir in flour mixture.

7Chill dough.

8Roll 1/4-inch thick on lightly floured board or pastry cloth.

9Cut cookies.

10Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

11Bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes.
