  • 1 pound, 1-23 ounces, weight Gram Or Lentils
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • Oil, For Frying
  • 1 cup Dried Apricots
  • 3/4 cups Dried Plums
  • 1/2 cups Tamarind Paste
  • 4 Tablespoons Sugar (or More To Taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt, Or To Taste
  • 1- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili, Or To Taste
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 2 cups Water, Divided
  • Carrots, Grated
  • White Radish, Grated
  • Onion, Sliced Into Rings
  • Yogurt, Whisked

    Soak the gram or lentils for a few hours in water till they easily split between your fingers.

    Throw out the water and put the gram in a blender.

    Add salt, red chili, cumin, and baking soda.

    Blend and make into a smooth puree.

    Take out this paste and form medium-sized flattened balls.

    If the paste is too thin, add some gram flour.

    Heat oil in a pan.

    When it is reasonably hot, deep fry the gram kebabs.

    In a separate pan, put the apricots, plums and tamarind.

    Add sugar, salt, red chili, cumin.

    Add half of the water.

    Cook till a thick paste is formed.

    Take this paste and separate the pits (if present) in any of the dry fruits.

    Now puree this paste to a smooth consistency.

    Again put in the pan, add the remaining water and cook till a sauce-like consistency is formed.

    Grate some carrots and white radish (mooli).
