- 1 salt to taste
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar or wine
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 or 4 large onions, sliced
Directions

1In a large skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.

2Add onions.

3Stir occasionally.

4After 10 minutes, onions will be soft but still light colored.

5If browning too quickly, lower heat.

6Continue to cook 40 to 50 additional minutes, stirring occasionally to scrape up and distribute tasty brown bits from bottom of pan.

7Onions should be golden brown and very sweet when finished.

8Add vinegar or wine to deglaze pan.

9Cook until liquid is almost evaporated, stirring to incorporate.

10Add salt to taste.

11Leftover onions will keep 3 days in the refrigerator.
