Split Pea Soup

Ingredients
- 1 lb dried split peas
- 11 cups water
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1 large onion, chopped fine
- 3 chicken bouillon cubes
- 12 teaspoon garlic powder
- 12 teaspoon oregano leaves
- 14 teaspoon celery salt
- 12 teaspoon pepper
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 ham bone or 1 smoked ham hock
Directions

1Sort and rinse split peas.

2Combine split peas, water,butter,onion,boullion,garlic,oregano,celery salt and pepper in large dutch oven.

3Bring to a boil then turn down to low heat.

4Simmer 1 hour uncovered.

5Add ham bone and carrots.

6Simmer about 1 1/2 hours or until thick, stirring occationally.

7Remove ham bone and rinse off.

8Cut meat off bone into small pieces and add back into soup.

9Taste for salt add as desired.
