Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. cubed steak (6 pieces)
  • 1/3 c. fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • salt and pepper
  • sliced or grated Mozzarella cheese

Directions

    Combine bread crumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.

    Dip steak in egg, then in bread crumb mixture.

    Brown steak in oil.

    Remove from skillet; put in lightly greased baking dish.

    Add onion to pan drippings; saute until done.

    Add tomato paste, water and spices.

    Bring to boil; cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes, then pour mixture over steak.

    Cover with foil; bake at 350° for 50 minutes. Top with cheese and put back in oven until cheese melts.
